Beef Board budget approved for FY 2014

National checkoff leaders this week approved a Cattlemen’s Beef Board (CBB) budget of about $40.7 million for Fiscal 2014, reflecting a 5.6 percent decrease from the Fiscal 2013 amended budget, amid continued tight supplies and an expected slowing of cow slaughter.

Scours preventative approved for organic beef calves

Organic cattle producers have a new tool to help protect newborn calves against scours. First Defense, a USDA-approved scours preventative for newborn dairy and beef calves and produced by ImmuCell Corporation, has been reviewed by the Organic Materials Review Institute (OMRI) and may be used in certified organic production.
