Zoetis Inc., formerly the animal health business unit of Pfizer, today announced a gift of $100,000 for Salmonella research to Texas Tech University, College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources, Department of Animal and Food Sciences. The research gift will help provide resources to better understand and describe the ecology of Salmonella in cattle populations and to discover and evaluate tools that might ultimately result in a safer food supply.

The Lost Rivers Grazing Academy: Management of Irrigated Pastures is a “boots-on-the-ground” workshop for livestock operators who want to harvest more of the sun’s energy as profit and let their livestock do it for them. Lost Rivers Grazing Academies will be held twice during 2013, on the Eagle Valley Ranch near Salmon, Idaho. One will be held June 11-14 and the other Sept. 9-12.

For the fifth consecutive year, the Texas Beef Council (TBC) is partnering with the American Heart Association to share with consumers the many ways beef can be part of a heart-healthy diet. In honor of National Heart Month in February, TBC celebrated the yearlong partnership by showcasing heart-healthy lean beef at Go Red for Women Luncheons in major Texas markets.
