Erratic volatility plagued commercial cattle markets during the month of October in direct relation to the roller coaster ride that grain markets have been experiencing since mid-September when full swing harvest began moving through the Corn Belt. Typically, corn and soybean prices are under pressure during harvest but this year’s disappointing yields and low global stocks have caused grain markets to be ultra-sensitive to the slightest crop report, rumor, or innuendo.

The discussions have focused on effective use, administration and withdrawal times. We always talk about the need to read the label and follow the label instructions. One of the areas on the label that not much time is spent on is the section labeled “Caution or Precaution.”

USDA to open temporary inspection station near Mexico border

LAREDO, Texas -- Agriculture Under Secretary for Marketing and Regulatory Programs Edward Avalos visited livestock inspection facilities on Oct. 14 and announced new efforts to protect the livestock trade between the United States and Mexico. After touring a temporary inspection facility in Laredo with Congressman Henry Cuellar, D-Texas, Avalos announced that USDA will be opening a temporary cattle inspection facility in Eagle Pass, Texas, the third temporary facility opened since the suspensions earlier this year.
