Steiner Ranch sells cattle herd to Santa Rosa Ranch

After a century in the cattle business and more than 40 years producing purebred Brangus cattle, XS Steiner Ranch Brangus has dispersed its entire cattle herd to Santa Rosa Ranch (SRR).   More than 1,000 head of females will be relocated to SRR along the Trinity River in Houston County and will complement the growing herd of purebred Brangus and Ultrablack cattle that have been developed in its program. “This is a bittersweet time for our operation,” said Bobby Steiner.

"Producers can easily retrofit their old, mechanical group scales to an accurate, easy-to-use digital scale system with these new mounts,” said StockWeigh Product Manager Larry Raupp.

New genetic merit test available to producers

July 30, 2013
Producers can achieve production goals faster with an investment in Red Angus' new genetic merit test — RA50K, according to the Red Angus Association of America, which has released the product. The new genomic data test, named for “Red Angus” and “50K” for the 50,000 tested locations on an animal’s genome, provides producers with higher accuracy EPDs to be used in making their seedstock selections. It identifies which genes a specific animal possesses and their impact on various traits, such as birth weight and carcass traits.

Red Angus cattlemen to convene at 60th national convention

The Red Angus Association of America (RAAA) will host its 60th Annual National Convention Sept. 11-13 in Lewistown, Mont. This year’s convention – themed “Diamonds in the Big Sky” – will be held at the Yogo Inn with a separate Commercial Cattlemen’s Symposium taking place at the Fergus County Fairgrounds. Post-convention events are scheduled for Sept. 14.
