With the end of another quarter near, dairy producers managing risk through the Dairy Revenue Protection (Dairy-RP) program face a coverage deadline. 

Strong milk prices and tighter supplies of cows and heifers pushed U.S. average prices for dairy replacements to their highest level in six years, according to latest quarterly estimates from the USDA.

September’s Federal Milk Marketing Order (FMMO) advanced Class I base price will hit a six-month low, while likely escalating producer irritation over the 2019 “Class I mover” formula change.

CWT export assistance efforts focus on dairy products that positively impact producers’ milk checks: American-type cheeses, anhydrous milkfat, butter containing 82% butterfat, cream cheese and whole milk powder. All these products are moving the components of U.S. dairy farmer milk overseas.

Milk prices plateaued but feed costs continued to rise in June, cutting into monthly dairy producer milk income over feed cost (IOFC) margins calculated under the Dairy Margin Coverage (DMC) program.
