The old adage, “Good help is hard to find” is more true than ever these days, particularly in the field of agriculture. Luckily, many dairies are finding ways to overcome this obstacle with the utilization of technology.
Dr. Ben Shelton (Rocky Creek Veterinary Services) moved his dairy from Apex to Olin, North Carolina, in 1992 with 400 cows on 450 acres. Today, the farm has 1,400 cows with 2,200 acres, where Shelton also owns and operates Rocky Creek Vet Service on the farm.
It’s been said the world is filled with dreamers and doers. There are those who dream but don’t do and those who do but don’t dream. A rare find is the individual who both dreams and does.
“It is slightly sweet when you first smell it. When you take a first sip, it has the heat you would expect in the vodka, but that heat quickly settles down and leaves you a sweet, almost caramel aftertaste,” says Omid McDonald, founder of Dairy Distillery.
After 25 years in business, Ag Oasis of Liberal, Kansas, has learned a lot about how to do things right. Part of that has been teaching – and learning from – summer interns as well as their full-time employees.
How did you get started in photography?
REINEKING:I took photography all throughout my years in 4-H and high school, where I learned the basics and things to look for when taking a picture.
For eight months of the year, Cozy Nook Farm is a peaceful neighborhood farm. The Oberhaus family milks 75 Brown Swiss and Jersey cows, farms 225 acres and generally enjoys life in the small town of Waukesha, Wisconsin.
