The Dairyland Initiative, a University of Wisconsin School of Veterinary Medicine outreach program that works with farmers to optimize cow comfort, health and milk production, has received a $50,000 grant from the Dean Foods Foundation to make its web-based resources available at no cost to dairy farmers across the country.

Semex, a genetics and research company, has opened Boviteq operations in Madison, Wisconsin. The company’s research and development arm, L’Alliance Boviteq (LAB), is located in Saint-Hyacinthe, Québec, and is known for both its research and bovine embryo work.

The All-American Dairy Foundation (AADF) has launched the Cull Cow Campaign to raise $50,000 by the end of 2013 from All-American Dairy Show enthusiasts.

Iwig Family Dairy, which has been in the business since 1910, has opened a second retail store in Lawrence, Kansas. The first Lawrence location opened about a year ago. This new store brings their total number of Kansas stores to four, including one in Topeka and another in Tecumseh.

The board of directors of the California Dairy Herd Improvement Association (DHIA) voted to change the organization’s name to DHIA West (DHIAW). The change happened on July 2. Continued growth, including additional states seeking affiliation with the group, prompted the change.

TechMix has formalized its nutrition products offerings within its new TechMix Nutrition business group. In 2009 the company purchased Protein Resources, which allowed it to create, manufacture and market unique products that meet the needs of a wide-ranging marketplace.

After 27 years as marketing and promotions coordinator for the nonprofit Allied Milk Producers’ Cooperative Inc. (AMPC), 84-year-old Dorothy Naugle is stepping down.
