The Dairy Heat Stress Road Show (DHSRS) is planning another round of travel this fall and next spring. Its aim: bring new answers to the problem of heat stress in dairy cows.

Milk Source LLC has purchased three dairy farms in Hillsdale and Lenawee counties. The Kaukauna, Wisconsin-based company expands to Michigan with the purchase.

After an 11-month investigation, Marcus Dairy of Connecticut has reached an out-of-court deal with the Department of Consumer Protection. The dairy was charged by a competitor of inflating the cost of providing milk for a school district.

Borden Dairy Co., based in Dallas, Texas, will begin a $5 million expansion and modernization to the South Lamar plant. The expansion is slated to create more than 100 new jobs.

When all-terrain vehicles first appeared in the U.S. in the 1970s, they were promoted and sold as recreational vehicles designed to provide “thrills” for the rider. Riders soon realized that ATVs were useful machines to move through areas not accessible with pickup trucks, four-wheel drives or other motorized vehicles, and it became a popular hunting vehicle. ATVs were quickly recognized for their many uses in agriculture as a substitute for pickup trucks, horses and even walking. The machines now are found on all types of farms and ranches, in orchards and forests, in ornamental nurseries and on golf courses.

Food quality standards in the U.S. are some of the highest in the world, and one industry with ever-increasing standards is the dairy industry. Many examples of how the industry is improving, and can further improve, were discussed at the 2013 Kentucky Milk Quality Conference.
