What is Pinterest?

October 10, 2012
Rebecca Ragain
If you spend much time online – or if your friends and family members do – you've probably heard about Pinterest. Like other social media sites such as Facebook and Twitter, Pinterest is a way for people to share info about their interests. Pinterest focuses on photos and other images – it's meant to be a virtual bulletin board or pinboard. It's especially popular with do-it-yourselfers, who use it to find recipes and project ideas.

October 10, 2012
Three former dairy workers with Idaho's largest dairy operation have been charged with misdemeanor animal cruelty after undercover video shot by an animal rights group showed workers stomping, dragging and beating cows inside a milking barn. Energy from Wisconsin cow manure could replace a coal plant

October 10, 2012
According to a recent Wisconsin Bioenergy Initiative (WBI) study, Wisconsin can be a national leader in bioenergy production using waste from the state's prosperous agriculture and food processing sectors. In dairy cow manure alone, the report found 4.77 million dry tons available per year, which is the potential energy equivalent of replacing a large-scale coal plant. The report was part of an effort coordinated by the Wisconsin Division of Energy Services with WBI and Baker Tilly to assess the opportunity and effect of renewable energy production in Wisconsin.

Court victory for Minnesota farmer in raw milk case

The Department alleged that Schlangen sold raw milk off the farm, that he handled food without first possessing a food handler's permit, and that he distributed misbranded and/or adulterated dairy products. A fourth charge on a labeling violation was dropped at the beginning of his criminal trial.

Drought-damage dangers

October 9, 2012
Is there any relief in sight? This summer the USDA designated more than half of all counties in the U.S. drought emergency management regions. While much of the nation’s apprehension lies in the depleting harvest, many livestock producers are also concerned about the potential for an unsafe feed supply this year due to the drought.
