Processing was addressed by those surveyed for State of Dairy as both an exciting opportunity and a challenge in some regions – especially since there are still many unanswered questions about how it will ultimately affect milk flows, if new processing facilities will eventually lead to the closure of some other existing ones and how much new capacity is actually available. 

Board leadership from the Dairy Farmers of Washington and Dairy West recently announced they will be joining forces under the Dairy West brand. Additionally, Steve Seppi, who previously served as the executive director of Dairy Farmers of Washington, has been selected as the new CEO of Dairy West. 

In news affecting dairy farmers' bottom lines at the start of June 2025: The Senate Ag Committee advances the Whole Milk for Healthy Kids Act, Darigold opens largest dairy processing facility in the Northwest, and farmer sentiment reaches a four-year high.

Higher milk and beef prices are two bright spots that have contributed to healthier financial margins across much of the Pacific Northwest.

In dairy news this week: The USDA added six more states for national HPAI milk testing, the U.S. partners with Indonesia to enhance its dairy sector, and Dairy's Foundation awards education and outreach grants.
