What education are you bringing with you to this position?

I have completed my bachelor’s degree in animal biology and my master’s degree in animal nutrition focusing on dairy production systems at the University of Guelph. I learned a great deal during my five years at university and am excited to put this knowledge to use in my new career as a ruminant nutritionist.

Please describe your agricultural background.
I grew up in the country and have worked on several different farms across a variety of species.  I decided to go to the University of Guelph to further my knowledge in the agricultural industry.

What territory will you cover?
Our territory covers most of southwest Ontario. It is centered around the Kitchener and Waterloo region.

What are your new responsibilities?
I am responsible for formulating dairy feeding programs and balancing rations. I am also available for technical support and on-farm consulting.

What previous positions have you held?
My previous positions include working on farms and working as a graduate student in dairy research at the University of Guelph.

Who has made the biggest impact on your career?
Although I have just started my career, I have had many people that have inspired me to pursue a career in dairy nutrition. So far I have been surrounded by a great group of people and I look forward to learning from them and working with them in the future.

How will you be of most help to producers in your region or area of expertise?
I will be most helpful to dairy producers looking for a keen nutritionist dedicated to improving the health and productivity of their dairy herd.

Why did you choose this company?
I chose to work at Floradale Feed Mill Limited for a couple of different reasons. I like that they are a family-owned business and value personal relationships with their customers. I also like that they are a progressive company who work as a team to continually move forward in new and innovative ways to help farmers overcome challenges and achieve their goals.  

What goals would you like to accomplish while in this position?
My goal is to become a knowledgeable nutritionist, who is an asset in helping farmers run a successful, profitable business by analysing on farm challenges and providing continual nutritional support. I also hope to further increase my knowledge on dairy nutrition by keeping up with current research and applying this to my everyday work.   

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
I see myself continuing as an enthusiastic member of the Floradale Feed Mill Limited team providing quality service to our customers. PD
