Four outstanding individuals in the cattle-feeding industry were celebrated for their leadership, innovation and dedication during the annual Cattle Feeders Hall of Fame banquet on June 30 in Denver, Colorado.
A few years ago, my wife and I traveled overseas. While visiting friends in their home, the conversation turned to our kids. This friend said her son enjoyed studying music, and I said my son had an interest in U.S. history.
“American history,” she snuffed. “You Americans have no history.”
State livestock officials across the country are handling a dramatic increase in cattle rustling investigations as prices continue to soar during a rough economy.

Bernard Rollin is a professor of animal science at Colorado State University and a prominent scholar on animal rights.
He has written numerous articles and books on animal welfare and spoken to cattlemen in several states about animal use ethics. His new autobiography is titled “Putting the Horse before Descartes.”
He spoke with Progressive Cattleman about animal welfare in today’s cattle industry.
