Pennsylvania dairy show offers opportunities for youth, producers

October 2, 2011
The All-American Dairy Show, held Sept. 17-22 in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, featured six days of high-quality dairy cattle, youth activities and industry meetings. For the first year in the show's 48-year history, Progressive Dairyman attended the event, giving away magazines and sponsoring the daily Barn Grazing newsletter. Each day the newsletter featured trivia questions, and those who were the first to answer received a free Proud to Dairy hat.

Embryo transfer training to be held in Pennsylvania

Precision Diagnostics LLC, based in New Holland, Pennsylvania, will be hosting an embryo transfer school October 18-20. The training will take place at Red Knob Farm in Peach Bottom, Pennsylvania. Governor Corbett establishes council to strengthen dairy industry in Pennsylvania

September 30, 2011
Governor Tom Corbett recently established a dairy leadership council that will help ensure that state government meets the needs of Pennsylvania‘s nearly $2 billion dairy industry. The Pennsylvania Dairy Leadership Council, chaired by Agriculture Secretary George Greig, will make recommendations to the governor on policies, procedures, regulations and legislation that may aid in the development of the dairy industry.

Kansas governor: State should invest in livestock

Kansas needs to invest hundreds of millions of dollars more in its dairy, beef and pork industries in order to give the state a larger share of U.S. animal agriculture production, Gov. Sam Brownback said. "I just want to see us put that on steroids and grow it," Brownback said during an economic development summit in Garden City.

In September, 12 professional technicians from across North America participated in the annual Technician Conference at Select Sires’ headquarters in Plain City, Ohio. Employees from five member cooperatives and Select Sires Canada were present for the two-day event, where they received advanced education in reproductive systems and solutions to better serve Select Sires’ customer-owners. The participants received in-depth information on estrus synchronization, factors affecting conception, Select RePRO Analysis, fertility research, dairy sire programs, Select's gender SELECTed process, and Select Detect, the most technologically advanced activity monitoring system on the market today.

Neogen’s BetaStar Plus to be featured at World Dairy Expo 2011

Neogen Corporation will be debuting its new simple, quick and accurate dairy antibiotic testing technology at the World Dairy Expo in Madison, Wisconsin, from Oct. 4-8. In coordination with the debut at the Expo, Neogen is holding a drawing for a free, complete dairy antibiotic testing system. Pfizer Animal Health invites veterinary students to apply for 2012 scholarship program

For the third consecutive year, Pfizer Animal Health and the American Veterinary Medical Foundation invite second- and third-year students of veterinary medicine to apply for the Pfizer Animal Health Scholarship. In an effort to help address rising school debt, up to 300 scholarships of $2,500 each will be awarded to assist students in all areas of veterinary medicine.

McDonald's USA names Dean Foods 2011 U.S. Supplier of the Year

McDonald's USA recently announced that it has selected Dean Foods, a leading dairy supplier for many of McDonald's restaurants, as the 2011 U.S. Supplier of the Year. McDonald's revealed the U.S. Supplier of the Year Award at the recent U.S. Supplier Summit, an annual gathering of key U.S. McDonald's suppliers and distributors, held in Schaumburg, near its Oak Brook, Illinois, headquarters.
