DeLaval announced it has hit the 30,000 sales mark for its swinging cow brush, a self-grooming device that keeps cows happier, healthier and more productive. “The swinging cow brush is very popular among dairy farmers thanks to its many customer benefits. Definitely a DeLaval success story,” DeLaval Vice President Business Area Aftermarket & Services Tim Nicolaï said.
During recent years, many universities in the Southwest started closing their dairy herds, a fact that sparked a definite need for a program focused on educating students interested in pursuing careers in advanced large-herd dairy management.
The Southern Great Plains Dairy Consortium (SGPDC), based out of Texas A&M University in College Station, Texas, and hosted by Clovis Community College in Clovis, New Mexico, was designed with that mission. Exactly two years after first breaking ground on a $62 million expansion, The Michigan Milk Producers Association (MMPA) hosted an Open House on June 30 to showcase its newly renovated and expanded processing facility. The dairy manufacturing plant operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, taking in approximately 3.5 to 5 million pounds of milk each day. Sales from the Ovid plant were nearly $140 million in 2009.

Following in the wake of a $10,100 average for the first four consignments into the ring, the 53rd National Heifer Sale on June 26 averaged $4,547.40 on 44 lots, setting a new record average for the sale series.
