New vertical manure spreader from Mills Manufacturing

While other spreaders on the market rely on apron chains and gearboxes, the Mills spreader uses a two-stage, hydraulic push ram. The Groomer increases cow comfort, reduces bedding usage

Developed by Carson Tardy, a dairyman and fabricator, The Groomer is a freestall rake designed to benefit those producers who place emphasis on cow comfort and appreciate the benefits of reduced bedding usage. At the front of the rake is a large, adjustable plow that is set at a 40-degree angle. This takes the sand at the rear of the stall and moves it back up to the brisket area.

Platform teat sprayer for rotary parlors

A new product in the Dairymaster range is the platform teat sprayer for rotary parlors, which provides both pre-spray and post-spray of teats. For the pre-spray, the cow walks onto the rotary and when her CowID is displayed on the milk meter the intelligent software activates so that she is sprayed for a predefined time. For the post-spray, once the cluster is removed from the cow again the intelligent software activates and there is a spray delay time.

Baytril 100 (enrofloxacin) Injectable approved by FDA for control of BRD in high-risk cattle

November 8, 2012
Cattle producers and veterinarians now have a new option for control of Bovine Respiratory Disease (BRD) in beef and non-lactating dairy cattle at high risk of developing BRD. Baytril 100 (enrofloxacin) Injectable, manufactured by Bayer HealthCare LLC, Animal Health Division, has been approved by the FDA for control of all four major BRD pathogens. With the latest approval from FDA, Bayer HealthCare asserts that Baytril 100 is the first and only fluoroquinolone approved for treatment of BRD and control of BRD in high-risk cattle.

Milk Guardian from Dairy Quality Inc. allows milk quality testing to be done right in the milking parlor – SCC readings can be determined in seconds. The Milk Guardian process is easy and can be done with nothing more than the Milk Guardian kit and an iPhone. How it works: A sample is drawn and loaded into a Milk Guardian slide chamber that automatically mixes the sample with reagents to identify somatic cells.

Animal Profiling International (API) has announced the launch of EasyPreg, a milk-based pregnancy testing service intended to make reproductive programs as efficient as possible. The test is designed to provide quick and accurate results, detecting pregnancy in cattle as early as 35 days post-insemination without invasive palpation or ultrasound.

Virtalis to make Haptic Cow available internationally

Haptic Cow uses a virtual reality technology called haptics to create a 3-D virtual bovine reproductive tract that veterinary students can use to carry out virtual rectal examinations. With most of the U.K.’s veterinary schools now Haptic Cow users, Virtalis is launching its veterinary training tool internationally. Haptic force feedback technology has been deployed in the Haptic Cow to create a virtual bovine reproductive tract, positioned within a seemingly empty fiberglass model of the rear half of a cow.
