Meyer crowned 2011 Western Illinois Dairy Princess

Torri Meyer, Liberty, Illinois, was crowned the 2011 Western Illinois Dairy Princess on June 30 at the Western Illinois Dairy Council’s promotion banquet in Paloma, Illinois. Meyer, daughter of Marvin and Brenda Meyer, was crowned by outgoing princess Kari Barry of Liberty. The banquet also honored Randy and Debbie Rossmiller with the Heritage Farm Award. The Rossmiller family has been hauling milk since 1951, when Randy’s dad bought his first axle truck to haul milk in 10-gallon cans. Rossmiller Milk Service now has 13 employees and 12 trucks ranging from 4,300 to 6,500 gallons. The company serves 72 Grade A producers in three states.

65th North Dakota Dairy Princess hails from Anamoose

Rachael Rott, an 18-year-old dairy enthusiast from Anamoose, North Dakota, was crowned North Dakota’s 65th State Dairy Princess last month in Bismarck, North Dakota. Rott is the daughter of Jim and Kimberlee Rott. She was one of five young women vying for the opportunity to represent the state’s dairy farmers during public appearances throughout the year. The runner-up was Amy Noel, 18, of Linton, North Dakota. She is the daughter of Albert Jr. and Lisa Noel.

Parkinson, Sahuarita, Arizona, received the AJCA-NAJ Award for Meritorious Service on June 24 during the annual meetings of the American Jersey Cattle Association and National All-Jersey Inc. in Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin. At the same time, Dan K. Bansen, Dayton, Oregon, was named the 68th recipient of the Master Breeder Award of the American Jersey Cattle Association.

Laurie Fischer, executive director of the Dairy Business Milk Marketing Cooperative (DBMMC) is pleased to announce the results of the recent appointment of members for the Cooperative's Board of Directors. DBMMC is a testing co-op which verifies the amount and components of milk sold to proprietary processing plants. The primary mission of this cooperative is to verify milk components and represent dairy producers at the federal government on legislative issues that are important to them.

Alan Gunderson was recently named chairman-elect of the American Feed Industry Association (AFIA). The organization is the world’s largest trade group devoted exclusively to representing the business, legislative and regulatory interests of the U.S. animal feed industry and its suppliers. Gunderson, who serves on the executive committee, will assume the top role starting in May 2012.
