Jersey Canada has named RJF REMAKE BECKY as its 2013 Cow of the Year.

Holstein Canada's (HC) annual Cow of the Year competition has kicked off with the selection of the four cows vying the 2013 title. Nominations were sought in fall 2013. Nominees are evaluated and selected based on a number of criteria such as ancestry/pedigree, production, classification, genetic merit and achievement of offspring.

A few years ago, Shawn Koopmans of Picton, Ontario, made his first purchase of Milking Shorthorn genetics by purchasing a group of embryos from a top brood cow in the U.S. While he knew he was investing in top quality genetics from the top of the breed, he could not have expected that first venture in Milking Shorthorns to yield a National Show Grand Champion and now an All-Time Single Lactation Milk and Protein Champion in the same cow.

WestGen says it has completed a land deal. This and its re-branding launch in early October underscores changes being made within the organization, the company says.

DuPont Pioneer is building two new processing towers at its Chatham, Ontario, production location. The $19 million expansion will enable the company to help simplify the planting process for growers by providing integrated refuge hybrids. This production facility will condition, treat and blend seed to integrate refuge products with other high-performing brand products.
