For the third consecutive year, Pfizer Animal Health and the American Veterinary Medical Foundation invite second- and third-year students of veterinary medicine to apply for the Pfizer Animal Health Scholarship. In an effort to help address rising school debt, up to 300 scholarships of $2,500 each will be awarded to assist students in all areas of veterinary medicine.
McDonald's USA recently announced that it has selected Dean Foods, a leading dairy supplier for many of McDonald's restaurants, as the 2011 U.S. Supplier of the Year. McDonald's revealed the U.S. Supplier of the Year Award at the recent U.S. Supplier Summit, an annual gathering of key U.S. McDonald's suppliers and distributors, held in Schaumburg, near its Oak Brook, Illinois, headquarters.

Accelerated Genetics is again offering four types of summer internships to college students for the summer of 2012. Accelerated Genetics internships provide an excellent variety of opportunities, from working hands-on within the A.I. industry, to networking and gaining valuable experiences that will help students to prepare for a future career. The four types of internships being offered for 2012 include the marketing communications internship, the genetic services internship, the sales and service internship, and the veterinarian internship.
Eight bovine veterinary students from across the U.S. each received $1,500 and an all-expenses-paid trip to the American Association of Bovine Practitioners (AABP) annual conference in St. Louis Sept. 21-24. The students were recognized at the AABP Conference by AABP and award sponsor Merck Animal Health.
Since 2004, Merck Animal Health has awarded more than $120,000 in scholarships and travel expenses to 49 students through the AABP Bovine Veterinary Student Recognition Awards.

Managing for success is the theme of the Dairy Middle Managers Conference offered Nov. 8 in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, by the Penn State Extension Dairy Team. The conference is designed specifically for dairy middle managers.
“Middle managers are critical to the success of dairies. They put dairy owners’ decisions into practice and deal with the day-to-day challenges of managing people and cows,” explains Conference Coordinator Dr. Lisa Holden, associate professor of Penn State Dairy and Animal Science. “The Middle Manager’s Conference was created to help middle managers develop the management and leadership skills they need to make positive changes in their operation while keeping front-line employees happy and productive,” she adds.
Growers of high quality forage will be rewarded with cash prizes in the 2012 World Ag Expo Forage Challenge, presented by Mycogen Seeds.
The competition challenges farmers and ranchers in 11 western states to enter their best alfalfa hay, standard corn silage or brown midrib (BMR) corn silage to honor those who produce the highest-quality forages in the West.

Barbara Wadsworth has been named a recipient of the Advanced Comfort Technology, Inc. Dairy Systems Management Fellowship in the Animal and Food Sciences Department at the University of Kentucky. This one-of-a-kind program combines leading university research with practical experience in the field. Wadsworth will develop extensive on-farm research projects to study dual chamber cow waterbeds (DCC Waterbeds) in collaboration with the University of Kentucky Department of Animal and Food Sciences under Dr. Jeffrey Bewley, assistant extension professor.
