Michael B. Kiechle and Ronald C. Robbins
Jefferson County, New York
Local dairy producers were interviewed for a lengthy story in the Watertown Daily Times titled “Dairy industry losing ‘war’ as milk consumption falls.”

Town of Philadelphia dairy farmer Michael B. Kiechle, who operates a 200-cow farm, said he would consider contributing more money toward checkoff programs, with the goal of increasing milk consumption.

In contrast, Sackets Harbor dairy farmer Ronald C. Robbins opposes contributing more toward checkoff programs. Robbins, who owns a 900-cow operation, contends the decline in fluid milk consumption cannot be reversed and told the reporter that “the train has left the station as far as fluid milk goes, and I don’t know that we’ll ever regain the market share we’ve had.”
