Recent export data from U.S. Department of Agriculture officials highlighted the continued growth in export of dairy products and dairy heifers. Exports of dairy heifers in 2012 have increased by more than 34 percent through February when compared to the same period a year ago. Year-to-date dairy heifer exports to Russia increased dramatically, increasing almost tenfold. Through February of last year, dairy heifer exports to Russia totaled only 648 head compared to this year’s 6,390 head.
Turkey, a major importer of U.S. dairy heifers, saw 4,100 fewer head versus the first two months of 2011. PD
