Cows, calves and tasty dairy treats are coming to the Capitol Square June 4 for Cows on the Concourse 2011. From 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., the annual event kicks off June Dairy Month in Dane County, Wisconsin. The free event is held just off downtown Madison’s Capitol Square on Main Street and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. Only Cows on the Concourse gives kids and adults the unique opportunity to get close to cows and baby calves, enjoy hot grilled cheese sandwiches, chug ice-cold milk and visit with Wisconsin dairy farmers – all in one location right in downtown Madison.

The main attraction of the event is the Cow Zone, where attendees can get up-close with a herd of cows and calves of several breeds. Kids can get face-to-face with the animals and learn more about these gentle creatures. Wisconsin dairy farmers and other “Moo Experts” will join the cows and calves and answer visitors’ questions. Attendees can also swing by the Ask a Farmer Zone where local dairy farmers will be on-hand for one-on-one chats about dairy farming.

Cows on the Concourse has even more opportunities for young dairy enthusiasts. Expanded this year, the Get MOOving and Fit Zone provides all kinds of athletic stations for kids. At the same time, adults can pick up tips for keeping their bodies strong. The Ed“Moo”cation Zone will feature hands-on games, such as Wheel of Fortune and Measure Up to a Cow, for younger kids to learn about dairy farms.

Cows on the Concourse offers plenty for food fans too. Tasty options include melt-in-your-mouth grilled cheese sandwiches for just $1.50 at the Big Cheese Zone. Wash down the fresh-off-the-grill treat with ice cold milk in several flavors. While you’re doing that, stop by the entertainment stage where Dick Leo and The Trio will provide live musical entertainment. PD
