DCI Cheese Company introduces Salemville Smokehaus Blue, an extension to its line of handcrafted blue-veined cheeses. The new Applewood smoked cheese is aged 60 days and has a slightly sweet, lightly smoky flavor. Smokehaus Blue will be available as 6-pound wheels and repacks this May at participating retailers nationwide.

China dairy to open world's largest manure-fed power project

May 11, 2010
Starting in September, a 250,000-cow dairy in northeast China plans to supply 38,000 megawatt-hours of power, enough to meet the average demand of about 15,000 Chinese residents. General Electric Co. will supply the farm with four biogas turbines. Biogas isn't new in China: by 2005, 1,500 large-scale biogas plants were in place at livestock farms and industrial waste sites. However, the government aims to have 300 million rural residents using biogas electricity by 2020 from 10,000 large-scale projects. Read the full article from New York Times.

Arizona dairy hosts dinners where guests dine with the cows

May 6, 2010
Superstition Farm in Mesa, Arizona, is home to a milking herd of 1,000 cows. Once a month, the farm becomes a restaurant, with seating being held in the alleyway between two open lot pens. The event is called "Chef du Moo", and the meal is all about featuring local foods, prepared by local chefs and paired with local wines.
