Three open house events to be held in Pennsylvania

The open houses are held to give dairy farmers and other members of the local community the opportunity to learn more about a farm's best management practices while becoming more aware of the resources and programs the center has to offer.

Pennsylvania dairy producers and promoters couldn't have asked for better ice cream weather for the annual June Dairy Month celebration, held at the Capitol Building in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. The celebration included an official proclamation from Governor Tom Corbett, declaring June as Pennsylvania Dairy Month.

VanEss family to host June Dairy Month Open House

To celebrate June Dairy Month, dairy farmers across western Iowa are inviting the public to a family-friendly event at VanEss Dairy near Sanborn, Iowa. The event will include a dairy farm tour, free food and kids’ activities from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, June 29. The farm is located at 2996 Sorrel Ave (2 miles east of Sanborn on Highway 18, then 2 miles north on Sorrel Ave/CR-L50). The June Dairy Month Celebration is sponsored by the Western Iowa Dairy Alliance and Midwest Dairy Association.

June Dairy Month celebrations begin at Wisconsin’s Capitol

Final preparations are underway for the 2011 National Holstein Convention and 126th Annual Business Meeting, taking place June 22-25 in Richmond, Virginia. Grazing conference moves to Springfield, Missouri

June 6, 2011
The Missouri Dairy Grazing Conference planned for July 6-8 has been moved from Joplin to Springfield, Missouri. Joplin, Missouri experienced significant destruction from an EF5 Tornado in May 2011. Although the Holiday Inn (where the conference was to be held) did not experience any physical damage, it has become a major support facility for multiple agencies needed to sustain displaced residents and facilitate the rebuilding effort.

NMPF to host summer Foundation for the Future meetings

The National Milk Producers Federation (NMPF) announced its Summer Grassroots Tour: 12 meetings in July and August that will bring together dairy producers and other key industry representatives to discuss the dairy policy reform programs proposed in NMPF’s Foundation for the Future. “The U.S. dairy industry has called for dramatic changes in dairy policy, and Foundation for the Future answers that call,” says Jerry Kozak, NMPF president and CEO. “Our summer meetings will explain how Foundation for the Future’s dairy policy reforms will safeguard dairy producers’ equity, ensure the future of their operations, and stabilize dairy markets.”

National Dairy Producers Conference highlights dairy’s hurdles

As the spring track and field season comes to a close, the equipment is gathered and locked away while students depart on a much-needed break. Unfortunately for dairy producers, their hurdles remain in place. At the National Dairy Producers Conference this May in Omaha, Nebraska, speakers from across the country reported on the conditions that lie ahead for the dairy industry. From Capitol Hill and foreign trade to high input costs and animal care, the gamut of issues was run. Capitol Hill U.S. Representative Jeff Fortenberry of Nebraska’s 1st Congressional District welcomed everyone to his home state and briefed the audience as to what has been happening on the Hill.
