Dairy producers and industry professionals from across the Southwest attended this year's Southwest Dairy Day held in Stephenville, Texas on Thursday, May 5. This year, the event marked a special occasion as it was held in conjunction with the grand opening of the Southwest Regional Dairy Center.

ANIMART, Inc. will host beef and dairy cattle fitting and showmanship demonstrations for all youth at the Dodge County Fairgrounds in Beaver Dam, Wisconsin, at 6 p.m. on Monday, May 23, for beef showmen and Tuesday, May 24, for dairy showmen.
All youth are invited to these complimentary, hands-on workshops intended to help teach youth about the art and techniques of proper animal care, including grooming and showing. This will help to achieve high placings with their 4-H and FFA livestock at summer shows.
Once again the Four-State Dairy Nutrition and Management Conference is set to take place in early June. It will be held June 8-9 at the Grand River Center in Dubuque, Iowa.
This conference, a collaboration of Extension professionals from Iowa State University, University of Illinois, University of Minnesota, and University of Wisconsin, was developed to provide timely research information for dairy industry professionals.
Industry experts with a vast array of expertise will converge at World Dairy Expo to help increase dairy operations profitability and efficiency as part of the 2011 Expo Seminars. Eight free seminars will be offered during the week of Oct. 4 through 8 at the Alliant Energy Center in Madison, Wisconsin. Cows, calves and tasty dairy treats are coming to the Capitol Square June 4 for Cows on the Concourse 2011. From 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., the annual event kicks off June Dairy Month in Dane County, Wisconsin. The free event is held just off downtown Madison’s Capitol Square on Main Street and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. Only Cows on the Concourse gives kids and adults the unique opportunity to get close to cows and baby calves, enjoy hot grilled cheese sandwiches, chug ice-cold milk and visit with Wisconsin dairy farmers – all in one location right in downtown Madison.
The Hoof Trimmers Association, Inc. will host its 2011 Hoof Health Conference – the dairy industry’s exclusive international forum on hoof health – July 21-23, in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, at the Doubletree Willow Valley. Registration information is available online.
Hoof trimmers as well as dairy producers, veterinarians and nutritionists – everyone on the dairy management team interested in hoof health – is welcome to attend this comprehensive, three-day seminar that will address all facets of hoof health issues on today’s dairy operations.
Recently, MPC and California Dairy Campaign co-hosted an industry meeting in Visalia to delve into National Milk Producers Federation’s “Foundation for the Future” (FFTF).
The meeting attracted about 160 people, a vast majority of whom were dairy farmers. It was moderated by CDC Executive Director Kevin Abernathy, and was broken into five main parts:

One of the many benefits of using anaerobic digestion for management of livestock manure is the destruction of methane, a highly potent greenhouse gas (its heat-trapping abilities are 21 times greater than CO2). For more than a decade, it has been possible for livestock operations to generate carbon offsets for this methane reduction when they replace their open manure lagoon systems.
The 2011 JAM (Joint Annual Meeting) of the American Dairy Science Association (ADSA) and the American Society of Animal Science (ASAS) will be held July 10 to 14 in New Orleans, Louisiana. The JAM brings together top dairy scientists from around the world to share results from their current work.
Nearly 350 growers, producers, veterinarians, academia, and dairy industry representatives came together in America’s Dairyland for the Dairy Calf & Heifer Association’s annual conference. The meeting and trade show were held earlier this month in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin. In two days, attendees acquired knowledge, tricks of the trade, product ideas and, for some, a little extra cash.
