AABP calls for applications for 2nd annual AgriLabs Dr. Bruce Wren Continuing Education Awards

In collaboration with the American Association of Bovine Practitioners (AABP), AgriLabs is offering an award to two veterinarians – one beef and one dairy – to encourage and fund recent graduates in their post-graduate continuing education efforts. Named as a tribute to Bruce Wren, D.V.M., each award will provide $5,000 for professional-development training so these practitioners may better serve their producer-clients. Completed applications are due July 15, and the presentations will be made at the annual AABP Awards Banquet.

Hawai‘i Fresh Milk Industry establishes CTAHR scholarship

The University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa College of Tropical Agriculture and Human Resources (CTAHR) announced the establishment of the Hawai‘i Fresh Milk Industry Legacy Scholarship Endowment. The $35,000 scholarship gift from the Hawai‘i Fresh Milk Industry (HFMI) will support students pursuing studies in the animal sciences program with an interest in sustainable dairy or other livestock production in the Department of Human Nutrition, Food and Animal Sciences. “We are appreciative of the endowed scholarship,” said Sylvia Yuen, interim CTAHR dean. “It is an investment in the future – a legacy from the dairy industry that will help grow and diversify Hawai‘i’s economy. Many bright and deserving students will be the beneficiaries of this generous gift.”

ARM & HAMMER rumen buffers listed by OMRI for use in organic dairy rations

Two rumen buffers manufactured by Arm & Hammer Animal Nutrition – ARM & HAMMER Feed Grade Sodium Bicarbonate and SQ-810 Natural Sodium Sesquicarbonate – have been listed by the Organic Materials Review Institute (OMRI) for use in organic production. OMRI is an independent agency that reviews and evaluates products for use under the USDA’s National Organic Program Rule in organic production and processing. ARM & HAMMER rumen buffers now join DCAD Plus Feed Grade Potassium Carbonate as OMRI listed ingredients offered by Arm & Hammer Animal Nutrition.

Animal Health International, Inc. announces final merger transaction

June 22, 2011
Lextron, Inc. and Animal Health International, Inc. (AHII), which also did business under the name “Walco,” announced the close of their transaction and completion of the merger. Lextron has acquired all of the outstanding common shares of AHII for $4.25 per share, or approximately $111 million, plus the repayment of AHII's outstanding indebtedness, for a total purchase price of approximately $251 million.

I'm double majoring in dairy science and animal science. Q. What is your agricultural background? I have grown up and been actively involved on 150-acre production agriculture farm with my family that also owns and operates Romberger Farm Supply, a feed mill that also offers nutritional consulting services. We raise replacement dairy heifers, manage Hereford & Angus beef herds, and Boer goats along with corn, soybeans, and hay crops. I’ve been a member of 4-H and FFA showing dairy cattle and participating in judging & showmanship contests Q. What previous internship positions have you held? I grew up showing dairy, beef and pigs and was very active in FFA and 4-H. Q. What previous internship positions have you held? In 2009, I interned at the Clark County Extension and last year I was the Marketing Intern at Agri-Nutrition Consulting, Inc. Internship information Q. What will your responsibilities be this summer? I will be responsible for writing press releases and testimonials, designing a new product catalog, creating newsletters and brochures, and ordering milk and cookies for county fairs in the state. Q.
