It’s been my privilege over the years to write many stories about life on our farm here. I’ve been blessed to get a fair bit of feedback on my stories and my book. Just the other day, I got a wonderful letter from two young women who are loyal readers. In their letter, they told me of a wonderful experience they had. I have to share it with you because it greatly blessed my family and me.
Naomi and Susan live on a small farm in Kansas with their parents and siblings. They help on the farm along with helping their dad in the feed business. They have five dairy cows that they milk. They use the milk for the household and for feeding young calves.
Last fall, a local rancher had one of his beef cows calve with twins. One calf was fine, but the other one was blind. So he offered to sell the blind calf for $200 to these young ladies. They, with their big hearts, bought it. They started bottle feeding it and asked around if there was anything they could do for its blindness. Somebody suggested spraying a liquid treatment in its eyes, which they did.
From my understanding, through much tender loving care and prayer, the calf got its eyesight. I have never heard of a calf born blind and receiving its sight, but I have now. It sounds like a miracle right out of the Bible. But this just happened to two young women who had big hearts, along with faith in God, and who were willing to work. The Bible says, “If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth” (Mark 9:23, KJV).
Naomi and Susan worked and believed and saw God work. They were so thankful.
It would be nice if we could say everything went great after that, but it didn’t. A lot of times in life, after great victories there comes another great battle. Shortly after the calf got her eyesight, she got pneumonia. Naomi and Susan turned to God again and asked Him to heal her. Their loving, faithful, heavenly Father did. Over time, the calf did great – and just recently, they were able to sell it at the local sale barn for a good price.
If it wouldn’t have been for the tender loving care, prayers and work these two young women put into this calf, it probably would have never lived. Today, this calf is running around, kicking up its heels and enjoying life.
In the world we live in today, how much more do babies, children and adults need our prayers and tender loving care? If we had this, this world would be a much better, more loving place to live in. Crime would be way down and our prisons wouldn’t be bursting at the seams.
God takes great joy when His children pray to Him in faith. Then, He can answer them and show strength on their behalf. He has to me and my family over the years and now, too, to Naomi and Susan. They will never forget this and neither will God.
