Agriculture secretary Tom Vilsack recently said he won’t run for the U.S. Senate seat opening up when Democratic Sen. Tom Harkin leaves office in 2014.

Vilsack will continue to serve as agriculture secretary and has not made any endorsements in the Senate race, said his spokesman Matt Paul, according to an article in theWall Street Journal.

The article also said that Vilsack’s decision not to enter the race will likely cement Democratic support around Rep. Bruce Braley. Possible Republican contenders include Iowa Reps. Tom Latham and Steve King.
