The effect of clinical mastitis in the milking behavior of Holsteins, Jerseys and their crosses

A study on the milking behavior of dairy cows with clinical mastitis found that Jersey and crossbred cows exhibited longer milking times, more "teat not found" events and more incomplete milking compared to healthy cows, while Holsteins showed no significant changes, highlighting breed differences in mastitis-related discomfort and milkability.

Our research group conducted a study at a large organic multibreed dairy equipped with an automated milking system. The goal was to describe and compare the milking behavior of cows from different breeds during the week before and after the diagnosis of clinical mastitis.
