Governor Corbett establishes council to strengthen dairy industry in Pennsylvania

Governor Tom Corbett recently established a dairy leadership council that will help ensure that state government meets the needs of Pennsylvania‘s nearly $2 billion dairy industry. The Pennsylvania Dairy Leadership Council, chaired by Agriculture Secretary George Greig, will make recommendations to the governor on policies, procedures, regulations and legislation that may aid in the development of the dairy industry.

Kansas governor: State should invest in livestock

Kansas needs to invest hundreds of millions of dollars more in its dairy, beef and pork industries in order to give the state a larger share of U.S. animal agriculture production, Gov. Sam Brownback said. "I just want to see us put that on steroids and grow it," Brownback said during an economic development summit in Garden City.

Pfizer Animal Health invites veterinary students to apply for 2012 scholarship program

For the third consecutive year, Pfizer Animal Health and the American Veterinary Medical Foundation invite second- and third-year students of veterinary medicine to apply for the Pfizer Animal Health Scholarship. In an effort to help address rising school debt, up to 300 scholarships of $2,500 each will be awarded to assist students in all areas of veterinary medicine.

Merck Animal Health awards $12,000 to top bovine veterinary students

Eight bovine veterinary students from across the U.S. each received $1,500 and an all-expenses-paid trip to the American Association of Bovine Practitioners (AABP) annual conference in St. Louis Sept. 21-24. The students were recognized at the AABP Conference by AABP and award sponsor Merck Animal Health. Since 2004, Merck Animal Health has awarded more than $120,000 in scholarships and travel expenses to 49 students through the AABP Bovine Veterinary Student Recognition Awards.
