Nearly 100,000 meals for the hungry were made possible during June Dairy Month, thanks to a nationwide effort by Dairy Farmers of America, Inc. (DFA). Throughout the month, DFA members and staff worked to deliver on the Cooperative's core value of community by helping fight hunger across the U.S.

The Holstein Association USA board of directors met June 21 and 22 in Richmond, Virginia. President Larry A. Tande chaired the meeting held in conjunction with the National Holstein Convention and Annual Meeting at the Greater Richmond Convention Center.

On June 30, Charles City, Iowa, Mayor Jim Erb; Area Development Corporation Director Tim Fox; and Mitas representatives Vladimir Dusanek and Ralph Kellenberger held a ceremony marking the groundbreaking of construction at the former Winnebago Industries Charles City plant, which is being converted into a farm tire factory and which will begin production early next year.

Merck’s animal health division, formerly known as Intervet/Schering-Plough Animal Health, announced that effective June 29 it has begun using the new name, Merck Animal Health. It will be known as MSD Animal Health outside the U.S. and Canada.

Holstein Association USA recently held its 126th Annual Business Meeting in conjunction with the 2011 National Holstein Convention in Richmond, Virginia, June 24 and 25. President Larry A. Tande presided over the meeting.

David E. Parkinson, Sahuarita, Arizona, received the AJCA-NAJ Award for Meritorious Service on June 24 during the annual meetings of the American Jersey Cattle Association and National All-Jersey Inc. in Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin. At the same time, Dan K. Bansen, Dayton, Oregon, was named the 68th recipient of the Master Breeder Award of the American Jersey Cattle Association.

The third session of a three part webinar series titled “Dairy Business Management Success Today and Beyond” will be held on Monday, July 11, from noon to 1 p.m. CDT. Registration for the webinar, hosted by the Professional Dairy Producers of Wisconsin (PDPW), is required by July 6.
