Several years ago, my friend brought me to her house in the suburbs. I can’t recall the rows of houses we passed to reach hers, only that it seemed indefinite because I couldn’t tell them apart.
This year marks my 20th year writing for Progressive Dairyman. I began when I was 40 years old, and just a month ago I turned 60. I have written to you from a dozen countries, including some of the most challenging environments anywhere.

I’ve never claimed to be trendy; one glimpse into my closet will affirm that. But consumer trends have always piqued my curiosity.
And thanks to my multiple roles in the food chain, consumer trends when it comes to food are especially intriguing – like the “10 food predictions for 2013” from Phil Lempert in the December 3 edition of Supermarket News.
I am mom to a 5-year-old, a 4-year-old and an 18-month-old. All day long I am bombarded with “why” questions and silly preschooler tales. I have to be honest, sometimes I just tune them out and smile and nod. A person can only take so many “he is smelly” jokes.
