Merck Animal Health has introduced its newest training module in its Dairy Care365 series. “Handling Dairy Calves and Heifers: A Low-Stress Way to a Profitable Herd” focuses on helping dairies create and maintain a low-stress animal handling approach, as well as a safe, positive environment for young animals.
Virtus Nutrition will launch a new, video-centered learning website this week at the World Dairy Expo. The website, FattyAcidForum.com, will focus on helping nutritionists and producers with fatty acid balance in feed.
Merial’s Best in Class Dairy website, www.BestInClassDairies.com, features a training module, which is part of a new comprehensive educational initiative. The new website and training module provide dairies access to valuable information and educational tools to help ensure healthy cows, the highest standard of milk and profitable operations. The web-based audiovisual training module, which addresses pre- and post-milking procedures, is the first in a series of training modules that will be offered to dairy operation workers through this site.

Q. Part of our milking routine includes forestripping. This seems to slow down the milking process. Why should we bother to forestrip?

Forestripping is one of the most important steps in the milking routine. And although forestripping is physically tiring and is often perceived as time-consuming, it is well worth the effort and can actually help shorten milking time and improve milk quality.
How much time do you spend finding ways to reduce feed losses? How much of that time is focused on monitoring your feeder’s performance? And when was the last time you had a training session or refresher for your feeders focusing on how to reduce feed losses and what your expectations are?
