In its second year, the AMPLI-Calf Technology Tanbark Challenge, hosted by Land O’Lakes Purina Feed, named six winners at the 2010 All American Dairy Show in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, and 12 winners at the 2010 World Dairy Expo in Madison, Wisconsin. The owners of the highest placing spring, winter and fall calves fed calf starter containing AMPLI-Calf Technology were recognized for their show ring success and received a $250 cash prize.
At the 61st annual meeting of the National Dairy Shrine, Mary Shank Creek, an Ayrshire breeder and dairy producer from Hagerstown, Maryland, was elected president of the organization. Meanwhile, Erick Metzger, the manager of National All Jersey from Reynoldsburg, Ohio was chosen president-elect. Elected to the executive committee along with Creek and Metzger were: Dale Olver, University Park, Pennsylvania; Ken Crandall, Provo, Utah; Maggy Murphy, Summerfield, Florida; and immediate past president Corey Geiger, Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin. The National Dairy Shrine board of directors consists of 21 members. This year, two new directors were elected to the board. They included Nancy Feeney, Davenport, Iowa and Fred Hendricks, Bucyrus, Ohio.
Domino's Pizza is introducing a brand new pizza to its American Legends(R) specialty pizza line that will make cheese lovers rejoice. This is the first new product Domino's has introduced in 2010 - the last being the launch of its 'Inspired' pizza and change to its core hand-tossed recipe, which took place last December.
The Wisconsin 6 Cheese is the first extension to the American Legends specialty pizza line, which showcases iconic tastes from across the country, and will feature cheeses from a place recognized by consumers for its expertise in all things cheese. Topped with tomato sauce and six cheeses including mozzarella, feta, provolone, cheddar, parmesan and asiago on a crust sprinkled with oregano - the quality and flavor of this pizza is as fulfilling as it sounds.
On October 8, about 350 people spent the day at Chaput Family Farms, an 830-cow dairy operation in North Troy, Vermont. Reg and Mike Chaput opened up their farm to show off the farm's new methane digester, installed in August. The digester enables the dairy to produce not only milk, but also electricy - up to 1.6-milliion kilowatt hours a year.

Q. How would you address producers who say, “Do we really need supply management in your plan?”
A. “First of all, it’s not a supply management program. We have a market management program that we’ve designed, and it’s called the Dairy Market Stabilization Program. We’ve designed a package of items that would cover the broad spectrum of dairy policy.
A recently released economic analysis by economists at the University of Missouri’s Food and Agricultural Policy Research Institute (FAPRI) shows changing U.S. fluid milk standards for inclusion of nonfat solids to those used in California would have a significant short-term increase in all-milk price per hundredweight.
The analysis was commissioned at the request of the four co-chairmen of the Congressional Dairy Farmer Caucus, Congressman Joe Courtney, Congressman Timothy Walz, Congressman Devin Nunes and Congressman Peter Welch.
