Agriculture officials are holding a series of workshops in Tennessee to help farmers use the Internet to grow their business. The workshops are designed to show how farmers can connect with potential customers through social media, customer surveys and other means.

With the need to increase food production to feed the world’s growing population staring animal agriculture in the face, Dr. Robert Fourdraine, chairman of the National Institute for Animal Agriculture, says NIAA chose to make “Meeting Growing Production Demands with Integrity” its Annual Conference focus. “NIAA’s Annual Conference, April 11-14, in San Antonio, Texas, will address animal agriculture’s challenges and opportunities associated with meeting this increased food need and zero-in on consumers’ role in food production today and hereafter,” states Dr. Nevil Speer, chair of NIAA’s Annual Conference planning committee.

The Dodge County Holstein Breeders, in coordination with the Wisconsin Holstein Association, hosted the annual Adult Holstein Convention at the Best Western Inn in Beaver Dam, Wisconsin, Feb. 18-19. More than 150 Holstein breeders from across the state were in attendance for national and state annual meetings and to recognize outstanding accomplishments for 2010.

Dairy producers in the Central Plains and beyond have the opportunity to come together once again for the 2011 Central Plains Dairy Expo, March 29-31, in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. John Michael Montgomery will be headlining the welcome reception* on Tuesday, March 29, while more than 200 exhibitors will fill the Convention Center the next two days.

A nasty ice storm couldn’t keep dairy producers and industry representatives from attending the 2011 Pennsylvania Dairy Summit, held Feb. 2 and 3 at the Lancaster Host Resort and Conference Center. Hosted by the Professional Dairy Managers of Pennsylvania (PDMP) and the Center for Dairy Excellence (CDE), the event featured several speakers, a few of which had to use Skype to present to the group after their flights were cancelled.
