ReproScan's new portable cattle ultrasound units

ReproScan has introduced two new portable cattle ultrasound units. Both the XTC and the XTL are rugged, splash-proof 3.3 pound (1.5 kg) portable ultrasound units that come with a 6-hour lithium ion battery, battery charger and carry case. Both units work with a wide range of viewing devices including the new Bright Sunlight Readable LCD Monitor, binocular and monocular goggles and wireless monitors. ReproScan units can be adapted to work with most viewing devices on the market today. The ReproScan XTC and XTL have been designed specifically for bovine reproductive use and are marketed with the tagline “the ultrasound with the cow on it.”

Genex expands DFM and oral electrolyte offering nationwide

Genex Cooperative, Inc. introduced NuLife ReBOUND and NuLife Oral Electrolyte to Midwest cattle producers in fall 2011 and has now expanded product marketing throughout the U.S. ReBOUND is a source of direct fed microbials (DFMs) that helps maintain normal appetite and digestion in cattle. NuLife ReBOUND also helps maintain fiber digestion and nutrient utilization, thereby maintaining dry matter intake and production.

Idaho dairies plan to appeal in case against Northwest Dairy Association

July 20, 2012
Three Idaho dairies plan to appeal the verdict in a case they brought against the Northwest Dairy Association over milk sales, according to a Capital Press article. Aardema Dairy, Bettencourt Dairies and Golden Valley Dairy filed a lawsuit four years ago against their co-op for taking a speculative position in the market with the milk the dairies had forward contracted with the organization.

The 144th Annual Meeting of the American Jersey Cattle Association (AJCA) and the 54th Annual Meeting of National All-Jersey Inc. (NAJ) are now in the history books! It was one of the most educational annual meetings in recent memory, with seminars by Roger Cady (co-author of the Jersey sustainability study) and AJCA staffers Cari Wolfe and Brad Barham. There was also an engaging talk at the NAJ Annual Meeting by Dana Coale, deputy administrator for AMS Dairy Programs, USDA.

Industry Honor Roll, July 19: North Dakota's new Dairy Princess, Shamrock Farms turns 90, National Dairy Shrine scholarships awarded

66th North Dakota Dairy Princess crowned Marissa Leier of Hague was crowned North Dakota’s 66th State Dairy Princess. She and runner-up Amy Noel, 19, were crowned during a luncheon with Midwest Dairy Association North Dakota Division board members. Leier was a member of the state champion dairy judging team that competed at World Dairy Expo and the livestock judging team that competed at the National Western Stock Show in Denver. She attends North Dakota State University where she is majoring in biology. Both Leier and Noel received scholarships from the Friends of Dairymen and the North Dakota Milk Producers. DFA discourages Superfund regulation of manure

Walter Bradley, government and industry relations representative for Dairy Farmers of America, testified last month before the House Committee on Energy and Commerce’s Subcommittee on Environment and the Economy in support of H.R. 2997. Congress created the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation and Liability Act (CERCLA) to assist with cleaning up toxic waste sites. H.R. 2997 seeks clarification under CERCLA and the Emergency Planning and Community Right to Know Act regulation that animal manure does not necessitate an emergency response nor create a Superfund site.

Nestle has broken ground for the Dairy Farming Institute, which will support the sustainable development and the accelerated modernization of the dairy industry in China. The groundbreaking follows an announcement Nestle made in January, in which the company committed to transform Shuangcheng, one of its largest fresh milk supply bases in China, into the country's benchmark for dairy farming and management best practices.
