How did you get started sharing your farming journey on social media?

In 2017, we wanted to get more active on social media. The goal was to be able to connect with our neighbors; more than anything, we wanted a landing page for them to go to to learn about us or be able to reach out to us. We also show cattle and wanted a place to showcase those cattle as well, along with animals we were selling.

How did you build such a strong following on your social media pages?

Even though social media is always changing, I’ve found if you consistently post authentic content, that is as valuable as anything, and I think that has helped grow our page. People enjoy seeing people. We just try to post about what’s going on, or share a recipe including dairy, or fun facts and things like that. The posts that do the best are usually about our family or our team, so I try to showcase that as much as possible. We are equally active on Instagram and Facebook but would say we get more engagement on Facebook.

Our most popular post recently was a reel about our new barn. It reached 355,230 people. Our post with the most engagement was a photo of our cattle and a “Farmer’s Prayer” by Amanda Radke, that had 2,934 likes, comments or shares.

Can you share an example of a rewarding experience you've had using social media to communicate about your life on the dairy farm?

We’ve been able to connect more with our neighbors thanks to social media. We think it’s really important to put a face behind the products on store shelves and the tractors on the road. The most rewarding experience we’ve had is getting able to interact with consumers, and because of our following we’ve been able to partner with local news stations to do interviews, as well as with American Dairy Association Northeast to do virtual tours, which we really enjoy.
