Organic Valley launches fluid milk product from 100 percent grass-fed cows

Organic Valley Grassmilk is the first refrigerated milk said to be produced from cows that are 100 percent grass-fed. New in the U.S., the product is the innovation of the week from Datamonitor’s Product Launch Analytics. The cows that produce Organic Valley Grassmilk eat only fresh grasses and dried forages, like hay – no soybeans or supplemental grains.

Senate passes Farm Bill, Dairy Security Act intact

After considering more than 70 amendments, today the Senate approved the passage of the Farm Bill with a 64-35 vote. There was no effort to significantly alter the dairy title, although two dairy policy amendments had been proposed.

American Agri-Women connect with policy makers in Washington D.C.

Leaders of American Agri-Women (AAW) from throughout the country connected with consumers and policy makers at the organization’s 27th annual fly-in to Washington D.C. The Annual AAW Symposium: “Sustainable Development – the Impact on Agriculture” was held at the National Press Club and covered issues relating to the Agenda 21 impacts on American agriculture. Visits to the Russian and Brazilian embassies gave members the opportunity to exchange in diplomatic relations.

CRI allies with Portuguese national cattle improvement organization

June 21, 2012
Cooperative Resources International (CRI) has entered an agreement with Lusogenes, a subsidiary of Portugal’s national cattle improvement organization, in support of their efforts to further enhance genetic improvement in Portuguese dairy and beef cattle. CRI, together with French partner Amelis, will assist Lusogenes through delivery of genetics and technical consulting.

As part of the organization’s ongoing commitment to shared research, the National Mastitis Council (NMC) recently launched a Facebook page to accompany its continuing social media outreach on LinkedIn and Twitter. These social media outlets offer an online portal for researchers and producers to share information on milk quality and industry insights.

Names in the News: cow chiropractor Dr. Sara Gilbertson

Q&A with a Midwestern vet whose chiropractic practice was highlighted in a widely run Associated Press article Dr. Sara Gilbertson is an equine and dairy veterinarian based in New Holstein, Wisconsin, who owns a mobile practice, Lake to Lake Veterinary Chiropractic LLC. She was featured April 28 in her local paper, the Herald Times Reporter – Manitowoc, and a month later in an Associated Press story on cow comfort that ran nationwide. Click here to read the AP story. How did these articles come about? A client of mine is a freelance writer. I asked her if she’d do a press release stating that I was doing chiropractic and regular veterinary medicine. In February, the press release was done to just local papers.

Wisconsin veterinarian writes book about Everest ascent

June 19, 2012
Veterinarian Lance Fox climbed Mount Everest to honor an inspiration he had while staying at the hospital with his premature son. Fox, whose father died at age 36, was already well aware of the fragility of life and his newborn son’s hospital stay only re-enforced his resolution to live life to the fullest. Nearly nine years later, on May 21, 2009, Fox watched the sun rise from a spot 28,500 feet up Mount Everest.
