What education are you bringing with you to this position?

I received my bachelor’s degree from Iowa State University in May of 2010 in Animal Science. This past August I graduated from the University of Nebraska – Lincoln with a M.S. in Meat Science. My master’s program focused on developing new cuts for today’s consumer derived from heavy weight beef carcasses.

Please describe your cattle industry background.

I grew up on a feedlot and diversified crop operation in eastern Iowa and was involved in 4-H and FFA. I am now engaged in the cow/calf sector with my husband, raising Simmental cattle.

What are your new responsibilities?

I act as a liaison between our contracted lobbyist and producer members to share proposed legislation as well as develop policy. I am in the process of forming communication avenues to increase producer awareness and engagement in the development of state and national policy.

What previous positions have you held?

Through my collegiate years I accomplished an array of internships in the beef industry including nutrition consulting, beef carcass merchandising, and business marketing. These experiences provided a universal insight into the beef industry. I was also a member of the Marel-Townsend Further Processing sales team.

What excites you most about working in your new role?

I have the opportunity to enhance the environment in which Iowa’s beef producers are able to manage their operation. The association is considered a grassroots organization so I fully anticipate meeting producer members throughout this next year at various meetings and events.

How will you be of most help to producers in your region or area of expertise?
I have experience in different sectors of the industry paralleled with a deep passion for raising cattle. I will work to fully support and represent Iowa cattle producers and be a definitive voice at the state and national level.

Why did you choose this organization?

I have a deep respect for cattlemen and women and the phenomenal job they do raising safe and quality beef. But often how they do business is threatened by activist groups and governmental regulations. Through entities such as the Iowa Cattlemen’s Association, producer interests can be preserved and their lifestyle protected.

What goals would you like to accomplish while in this position?

I really want to improve the legislative engagement of Iowa beef producers and plan to do so by increasing communication efforts and openly providing opportunities for members to speak their part.  end mark
