According to the newly released 2011 county Agricultural Crop and Livestock Report, sales of crops, livestock and agricultural products in Tulare County reached record levels last year, exceeding $5.6 billion. Among the most dramatic sales increases were the county’s top agricultural commodities, milk and products manufactured with milk, which generated $2 billion and $8.17 million in sales last year, respectively.

“It was the first time milk [sales] went over the $2 billion mark,” said Tulare County Agricultural Commissioner Marilyn Kinoshita.

That’s a combined increase last year of more than $45.1 million over sales of milk and mik products in 2010, according to the report.

These numbers make Tulare County the No. 2 agricultural county in California in 2010 based on sales of agricultural products, behind Fresno County, which had $5.9 billion in sales. PD
