Elation was produced by Schaff Angus Valley of Saint Anthony, North Dakota, and bought by Square B Ranch and Cattle Company of Warsaw, Missouri, and Bogle Ranch LLC of Langley, Oklahoma. “[Elation] is out of the longstanding cow family of Schaff Angus Valley, who has the best cow herd in the world, and we’re building a good partner in David Bogle of Bogle Ranch in Oklahoma,” Brian Bell, owner of Square B Ranch and Cattle Company, says.
Elation is a grandson of N Bar Emulation EXT, who Bell says is arguably one of the best Angus bulls in the last 25 years. “He’s going to be a bull that is going to be a leader in the industry and be around for a long time in the Angus breed, as EXT already has,” Bell says.
Elation has a highly desirable balance of traits, including low birth weight, high growth, and excellent beef quality. This makes him an excellent fit for the Quality Beef program, a Missouri-based network of ranchers whose focus is improving quality, consistency and value of cattle. “Part of the Quality Beef program is breeding a balanced herd where you can take your steers out to feed and get them to grade out well at the packing plant and get premiums for those steers, but at the same time not give up on your cow herd at home,” Bell says.
Bell says one of the focuses with Elation’s genetics is concentrating on the long game. “You’ve got to bring replacements into your cow herd, and you want the best possible replacements that will have some longevity,” he says. “The EXT family is known for perfect footed, perfect-uddered cows that have lots of longevity in the herd, so he fits the Quality Beef program because we can build the females that people need for the future of their operations, but also get the pounds and the grade that we need at the packing plants to match the needs on the steer side.”
Bell says there has been a lot of attention both domestically and internationally in Elation. He looks forward to a good return on investment for his record-breaking auction purchase.
