In third lactation, Accent-P produced 707 kg of fat in 305 days at an astonishing 7.8 percent fat. She also produced 9,078 kg of milk and 309 kg of protein, with breed class averages (BCA) of 317-615-332. This eclipses the all-time record of 696 kg of fat that she set in second lactation.

Accent-P is owned by Oceanbrae Farms of Belmont, Prince Edward Island. She was bred by the Kulp family of Pennsylvania, as she is the result of embryos from Rovin Derek Ali Accent-P by Bar-D Krause's Fawn's CD.

With this new all-time record, Accent-P also becomes the all-time fat champion for four-year-olds.

Two other cows also set new fat records for their respective age groups:

  • Koopycrest Logic Ali Anne VG-87 established a new 305-day fat record for milking yearlings with 407 kg of fat (5 percent). Anne also produced 8,188 kg of milk and 267 kg of protein in her first lactation. She is bred and owned by Shawn Koopmans of Picton, Ontario. Anne was also an honorable mention at the 2014 National Milking Shorthorn Show this past September.
  • Oceanbrae Jurist Thyme VG-88 established a new 305-day fat record for five-year-olds with 508 kg of fat (5.2 percent). Thyme also produced 9,823 kg of milk and 328 kg of protein. She is bred and owned by Oceanbrae Farms of Belmont, Prince Edward Island.

These cows are great examples of the excellence in production and type that modern Milking Shorthorns can achieve. For more information on Canadian Milking Shorthorns, visit the Canadian Milking Shorthorn Society website.  PD
