George Cashell of Chambersburg, Pennsylvania, has been elected chairman of the board of trustees for the All-American Dairy Foundation (AADF). Irene Osborne of Millerstown, Pennsylvania, was elected vice-chairwoman. The elections took place at the Penn Stater Conference Center prior to activities of the Pennsylvania Holstein Association’s 100th anniversary celebration.

Newly-elected trustees include Patti Hushon of Red Lion, Pennsylvania, and Sherry Bunting of East Earl, Pennsylvania. Hushon pioneered and shepherded the Premier National Junior Show into the most prestigious and largest Junior Dairy Show in the U.S. Bunting is an agricultural journalist serving the dairy industry with the broad dairy industry news. The talents of these new trustees, with their history and understanding of youth activities, will assist the board in assuring judicious use of funds.

Jay Houser, Spring Mills, Pennsylvania, was re-elected treasurer, and Rita Kennedy of Valencia, Pennsylvania, secretary. Bob Heilman was appointed by the board of trustees as executive director. Retiring from the board were Robert Storch of Troy, Pennsylvania, and Dr. Doug and Kathe Evans of Georgetown, New York.

The AADF is a 501(c)3 charitable organization supporting youth activities at the All-American Dairy Show (AADS), including the various dairy judging, management and leadership contests. The trustees made grants and in-kind assets awards totaling $63,504.75 in support of the youth activities at the 2013 show in September.

Executive Director Bob Heilman reported all segments of youth activities of the Premier National Junior Show and Challenge Contests are supported by the Foundation. Heilman noted that the Pennsylvania Dairymen’s Association and Arthur W. Nesbitt of Wisconsin are the major financial supporters in the three-year history of the Foundation, which presented the first Arthur W. Nesbitt scholarship award recently.

The trustees plan to expand the promotional activities for a unique fundraising project dubbed the Cull Cow Campaign. The Foundation is building an endowment fund focused on young dairy leaders as well as financially supporting the annual AADS youth activities, which provide showmanship, leadership and educational opportunities for around 1,000 dairy youth from across the country each September in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.
