Of the 21 who received this milestone award, 67 percent (14) were first-time shield recipients while the remaining seven are previous shield winners. Eight breeders were from Québec; eight from Ontario; three from British Columbia; one from Manitoba; and one from Saskatchewan.

These Master Breeders will be honoured in a formal gala at the Master Breeder Banquet on Friday, April 12.

The Master Breeder program began in 1929 when the first shield was awarded. Since then, only 924 Master Breeder shields have been bestowed to Holstein Canada members.

These “Master” breeders are recognized for having the best ratio for breeding cows that possess the complete package – high production and outstanding conformation, with high proficiency in reproduction, health and longevity.  PD
