What other industries and businesses have reaped the rewards of excellent management, and how can dairy farm businesses learn from them? That’s what dairy producers and other executives will examine at Professional Dairy Producers of Wisconsin’s 2012 Managers Academy, “Executing Excellence,” Jan. 17-19, Atlanta, Georgia.

During a combination of tours and classroom sessions, leaders from the peach, peanut and poultry industries will discuss their growth strategies, protocols and audit procedures regarding food safety, migrant labor, competition from food imports and other key performance areas. Dr. David Kohl will team with Dr. Danny Klinefelter of Texas A&M to lead sessions and facilitate executive insider tours.

A session called “The Visions for Dairy” will be led by Dr. Guido van der Hoeven, extension specialist and senior lecturer at North Carolina State University, and Jay Penick, retired president and CEO of Northwest Farm Credit Services. Acknowledging the many hats dairy executives wear, these trainers will help participants see the big picture while remaining abreast of day-to-day activities.

The 2012 Managers Academy will also offer executive-level tours of the Centers for Disease Control, CNN and AGCO’s Global Training Center. Company executives will share business model information and the secrets to their growth and success. The Academy will close with Kohl and Klinefelter helping participants connect the dots between the businesses seen on tour and the business models of Managers Academy participants.

Partnering with PDPW on the 2012 Managers Academy are Boehringer Ingelheim, Cargill Animal Nutrition, Progressive Dairyman and Arm & Hammer Dairy Nutrition.
