Schaefer FlipFan dairy cooling system installed on Arizona dairies

Schaefer Ventilation announces the successful installation and commissioning its patent-pending FlipFan dairy cooling system at Patrick Dugan’s Du Brook Dairy, Sean Dugan’s Sidewinder Dairy and Casey Dugan’s Desperado Dairy in June 2011. It was also installed at Bill Rezzonico’s Blackwater Dairy, and Bill Boyle’s McClintock Dairy.

The FlipFan dairy cooling system from Schaefer Ventilation combines 36-inch high velocity fans and misting system with a horizontal rotational mounting structure that allows the fans to be adjusted to compensate for wind speed and direction and to flip 180° to point outside the shade to keep the cooling on the cows at night.

FlipFan is controlled by an iPad or iPod driven PLC that adjusts the FlipFan dairy cooling system for time, temperature, humidity, wind speed, milking and feeding schedules, thereby reducing energy cost and water usage over more conventional systems. PD

As predicted, milk prices recovered some in April with Class III at $15.57 per hundredweight (cwt) during the last full week of the month and futures jumping more than $1 for May and June. Unpredictability is still expected in the marketplace, and producers are encouraged to enroll in the Dairy Margin Coverage (DMC) safety net program.
