The Golden Anniversary featured a jam-packed schedule, including events like the show's first-ever dairy oxen demonstration, a volunteer appreciation reception and the annual National Dairy Shrine Banquet, making it one of the few times this banquet has been held outside of Wisconsin.

Six families were recognized who have exhibited at the show for all 50 years. They are the Yoder family of Pinesedge Farm, Shoemakersville, Pennsylvania; Patrick family of Maple Dell Farm, Woodbine, Maryland; Marchezak family of Bentleyville, Pennsylvania; Gable family of Snider Homestead Farm, New Enterprise, Pennsylvania; Stiles family of Spring Valley Farm, Westminster, Maryland; and Shank family of Palmyra Farm, Hagerstown, Maryland.

This year also marked the 10th anniversary of the Premier National Junior Show. Unique to this year's special celebration was a calf giveaway at the Opening Ceremonies.

Seven dairy youth in each breed took home calves generously donated by some of the nation's most popular breeders and industry supporters. An additional $35,000 in prizes were awarded at random to youth exhibitors. Prizes included clippers, magazine subscriptions, clothing and cameras.
