A dairy products manufacturer based in Gujarat, in western India, has announced that it will begin producing Indian cheese (paneer) and butter (ghee) at an existing New York state plant owned by New Jersey-based NRI Piyush Patel.

The dairy company's name is the Kaira District Cooperative Milk Producers Union Limited, better known asAmul Dairy.

According to the Times of India, Amul Dairy's managing director Rahul Kumar said there is "huge" demand for Amul products in Indian restaurants in the U.S., especially in New Jersey, which has a large Indian population.

"New York is a milk surplus state and with this arrangement we will be able to produce and supply Amul products in the U.S. as well as Canada, and export it to Europe," Patel, owner of Summit Milk Products, told The Times of India.

He added that the company has already received FDA approval. PD
