The 47th Annual Florida Dairy Production Conference was held at the Best Western Gateway Grand in Gainesville, Florida, March 30. The conference was sponsored by the Department of Animal Sciences at the University of Florida, Florida Cooperative Extension Service and the Agricultural Experiment Station of the Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences. Dairy industry speakers from Florida to New York spoke on various issues and topics ranging from animal health/reproduction to the state of the dairy economy and dairy lending. Topics were focused on the southeastern United States.

Dairy Production Systems, based in High Springs, Florida, was represented by Michael Pedreiro, AJ Pedreiro, Dairy Manager – Bell, Mario Soto, Dairy Manager – Branford, and Warren Lawrence, Dairy Manager – Georgia.

"I think this conference is very important because it is the only statewide dairy conference that is held in Florida," Michael Pedreiro said. "It’s geared exclusively to dairy producers and gives us a chance to hear some renowned speakers and learn from their expertise.”

Each year, the conference also hosts an award ceremony for the top milk producing herds in the state of Florida. This year, both DPS – Bell and Branford were honored at the event. The farms are ranked based on the herds’ rolling herd average. DPS – Bell was ranked third in the state and DPS – Branford was ranked seventh.

Congratulations to the teams from Bell and Branford on their production awards! PD
