The national average test-day somatic cell count (SCC) in herds enrolled in Dairy Herd Improvement (DHI) SCC testing in the U.S. has dropped from 316,000 cells/ml in 2000 to 200,000 cells/ml in 2014.

Average SCC has declined every year since 2005 and every year except one since 2001, which had the highest SCC at 322,000 cells/ml. Additional SCC data (including DHI SCC reports back to 1998) can be found here. PD
