Essential functions:

  1. Manage the executive office of the NHA.
  2. Manage the financial affairs of the NHA.
  3. Coordinate legislative efforts to achieve NHA goals.
  4. Perform record-keeping duties.
  5. Serve as writer and editor of the annual membership book, the monthly newsletter and press releases.
  6. Work with committee members to plan and organize annual meeting and conventions, and to develop objectives for each association committee.
  7. Promote the membership and influence of the NHA.
  8. Communications liaison to other agriculture organizations.
  9. Adhere to and relay NHA bylaws.

Other requirements:

  1. Travel for conferences, meetings and promotion, approximately 10 weeks per year (at NHA expense).
  2. Set up and maintain the executive office in a business location (at NHA expense).
  3. Have office open for business Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  4. No conflict of interest, namely, meaning no personal involvement in the merchandising of feed products.

Skills:

  1. Diplomacy
  2. Strong communication skills, including listening
  3. Abilities in promoting to industry and governments

Education or experience requirements:

  1. Minimum of an associate degree in administration or related field
  2. General bookkeeping or accounting
  3. Computer skills including Windows Office, Dropbox, Gmail, general internet and email usage
  4. Fax machine use
  5. Knowledge of the agricultural industry, specifically as it relates to forages
  6. Familiarity with USDA regulations
  7. Familiarity with lobbying government agencies
  8. Commodity group background
  9. History of working with an NHA member

Licensing or other special certifications required:

  1. Must be able to obtain a commercial crime coverage policy.
  2. Must have a valid driver’s license and ability to obtain a U.S. passport if needed.  FG
